23 year-old male from Evanston, IL I'm out of my mind and couldn't be happier. I also take random friend requests. Watch me, you never know when I might do something.

Life After School It is now officially summer. School is over and done with and I am now a college graduate. I have now left the world of higher education and entered the monotony of the working world once again. For those who haven't read any of my previous journal entries, I graduated with a double major in art and psychology. I'm taking the next year off to figure out what career field I want to pursue. Right now I'm working as a youth and family support worker at a community based service center. Basically I take on the role of a counselor/role model/big brother for kids in troubled home environments. I've been at this job for about 2 months now. It's an interesting job and I like what I do a lot but the hours are a killer. Since I work with kids and most of them are still in school (or were) my schedule during the school year had me working the mid-day shift six days a week. That's changed with summer being here but it will go back to that in the fall. In my off time I've been doing a fair amount of drawing, it's amazing how different my style has gotten since I started drawing 3 years ago. I don't know if I ever wrote this in a journal before so I'll say it now. When I got to college I had no intention of being an art major, I had no intention of doing art at all. I've always liked to draw but I was always directionless and pretty unhappy with my work so I rarely drew. I didn't have the innate artistic talent that a lot of people I knew seemed to have. However during my sophomore year at college I took a drawing class as part of a general education requirement. I had a phenomenal teacher, who I credit with nothing less than giving me the gift of art, and some good friends who gave me tips along the way. My teacher however was the first involved art teacher I'd ever had. He gave me tips, guidance, feedback, an alternative perspective and so much more. If it hadn't been for him I never would have pursued an art degree. Yet here I am 3 years later looking at graduate schools that specialize in art, and illustrating comic panels for the stories I write. Getting back to what I was saying though, I've been pursuing aspects of both of my fields of study to gain an idea of what it would be like to choose one career path over the other. I'm not sure what I'll choose but regardless of what I do choose I want to remain sharp in both fields.
