my tats, in a nutshell (for _Reaper_)
_Reaper_ asked the question: what inspired each of my tats? i'm gonna give a quick explanation for each along with a pic.

1) my first tattoo was borrowed from a book cover and altered slightly by a friend of mine to have the flames and it was based on two things: my love for the movie The Crow and the symbolism of the crow itself in regards to rebirth and everything. the whole thing about the crow being a messenger of the dead and things like that. i was 18 and it had been 6 years since my dad died. it was kinda like my symbol for wishing he'd come back.

2) my second tattoo was my own design from scratch made for my daughter. my wife, then girlfriend, found out she was pregnant and not long afterward i drew this up at work. the wood was inspired by a Finger Eleven CD cover. they were my favorite band at the time and i was going through some personal issues. it was like my yet-to-born daughter was mending my broken heart.

3) i have a thing for the whole death and rebirth stuff and i've always loved the different variations of the phoenix bird and i love its mythology. my daughter's middle name is Phoenix so it kinda held a couple of reasons for me. the phoenix design was awesome, i found it on a tattoo site but it was posted on Deviant Art, too. i found some cool flames and worked it into the design and decided i wanted no outline for the body. i think it looks better and more unique that way.

4) number four was just an awesome pattern i saw and loved it right away but didn't want to get it unless it could carry some weight. it was coming up on the anniversary of my dad's death so i went with it and got it done. the original design was black and white so i had my tat artist change the eye color to green like my dad. look up the symbolism in the Eye of Ra and you'll see what i mean.

5) i was in a car accident a little over a year ago and nearly put my car on its roof. i had no seat belt on, i banged my head into the window and cracked it, i broke the steering column with my face, i broke my gear shift, the front end of my car was shot, the driver's side wheel was jammed back into the frame. it wasn't fun. and i came out with one cut on my hand that needed no stitches and only a band aid for a week or so.
i work in a jail where plenty of people have a number of tattoos and any given person either has a great collection of tattoo designs or can draw a great one. so this guy, at my request, was cool enough to draw the pattern for me for nothing. it was such an awesome job that i had to get it done.

6) my girlfriend at the time wanted me to get her name put on me someplace and i am really against that. everyone knows that is the quickest way to jinx a relationship. but we were engaged and she wanted me to get her name so bad that i decided on something symbolic to our relationship: her name, on my ring finger, where it can be seen and not seen, and easily covered if anything were to happen.

7) my tattoo artist is also my best friend and he wanted me to learn how to do tattoos so we could maybe open a shop together someday or at least be able to do some work on him. we decided the best way for me to learn was by doing some work on myself. this is part of the pattern i decided to use for my first self done tattoo. he helped me out in a couple spots and we really split it down the middle on who did what.

8) the companion piece for number seven and the first and only tattoo i did on myself 100% by myself. i'm proud of it.

9) most current and one i'm especially proud of cause the design is completely and totally my own, my Reaper. i've decided to sleeve out my right arm and this is one of the many pieces that i wanted to use. like i said before, i have a thing for death and rebirth and there's no more sybolic a figure for both like the Grim Reaper. it's going to be one of the cornerstones for my sleeve, along with the phoenix on the other side of my arm, and a very important part of the whole thing.

Music Breaking Benjamin owns my CD player Mercy Drive pulls a close second i still rock out to some old school Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock and from time to time i dig Saliva and Drowning Pool (the first incarnation of the band with Dave Williams).
Movies The Crow w/ Brandon Lee The Hills Have Eyes (the remake i havent seen the original yet) A History Of Violence Aliens VS Predator Wrong Turn Silent Hill Batman Begins both Spider-Man flicks there's more but i can't think straight right now.
TV Shows Monday Night RAW and Tuesday Night ECW are the only constants. Friday Night SmackDown is getting pretty strong for me. TNA Impact will be very hard to miss when Angle gets there. Psych kicks ass.
Books American Gods by Neil Gaiman Dark Is Rising by Susan Cooper Silver On The Tree by Susan Cooper The Crow: Lazarus Heart by Poppy Z. Brite City Infernal by Edward Lee and pretty much any well written comic I can get my hands on. pretty much anything written by Neil Gaiman will keep me entertained.
