Late Journal is Late

First off, an update to my previous journal: The Pirates of Penzance was fantastic--the Firefly touches were kept to setting and costume, mostly, but they made for a great twist on an already amazing operetta =D Also, Stelladea is one of the sweetest people ever ^____^

Now, for the bulk of the journal: I went to Yosemite National Park two weekends ago! And since then, life has conspired to keep me from posting a POIDH journal about it. But no longer! You can haz pix!

We started our hike that day near lower Yosemite Falls, which had been augmented a bit by precipitation, some of which was still falling as snow and sleet.

And then about half an hour into the hike, we ran into these guys:

That is on a crappy phone camera with no zoom. They let us get SO CLOSE...I'm pretty sure I could have reached out and touched one. And they are very cute =) I also recorded a little bit of video, because sometimes stills don't cut it. (I sound a little nasal in that video because the cold sort of killed my nose.)

The gloomy weather was excellent for creepy, low-key photos though =D

And after hiking for a bit, the cold was not that noticeable. Unfortunately, tromping around in cold puddles of melted snow...still noticeable. But all the natural pretteh made up for it.

On the bus ride out of the valley, we got a good look at the clouds that had been dropping snow on us all day:

Do you know how difficult it is to take a good picture on a moving bus? Such a pain @__@ XD

And an incredible sunset to end the day ^__^

Yosemite is one of my favorite places ever. There's nothing like a long hike in the woods to bring on nature-induced happehs =D

So do you think a certain piece of machinima is going to be ready in time to be shown at a certain convention to certain people who are currently in the country it's being held in?
Just out of interest.

Yeah, I think I maxed out the character-count for a comment... -_-' sorry, I'm stressed.

You know, you can hide your online status, I often do this is I want to check the site now and then but am too busy to get into conversations, then people don't think that you're "screening them" or whatever the term is.

Well I've had people break friends with me over less -- something starts out as a small thing and then turns into a huge argument and then the next thing you know that person has emigrated... but yeah, sorry.

Gah! When on Earth do you sleep, girl? Good luck with the assignments, I'm sure you'll do fine

People always assume that if you're online but not talking to them that you must be mad at them. This is why I log out of the site when I so much as need to pee. Considering you did seem to be highly annoyed at me and you were shown as being online, I was assuming for the first couple of hours that you weren't replying to the first comment I left because you didn't want to talk about it anymore because you were annoyed so I was trying to change the subject in the hopes that I could repair the situation before it got irreparable. I am not very good at social situations at the best of times and it is very hard to read someone's emotions over the internet. And you should really have your phone turned off in class.

RvB Season 9:
Well, the whole concept of Red vs. Blue has always been that the characters are fighting but don't know why -- Project Freelancer seems to be just as much about this as Red vs Blue is, they're just following orders on the vague notion that they're the good guys and the other guys are the bad guys and not really thinking too much about it. Presumably, just as the reason why the Reds and Blues are fighting is explained later to be a training exercise, we'll eventually be told what the insurrection is about, or if there really is an insurrection or if the Director is using that as an excuse for stealing stuff.
I do remember there being some kind of rebellion of sorts in the original Halo storyline though, before the Covenant started attacking human colonies, back when the Spartan program was first commissioned, that was never really explained fully either.

As for the epsi-pod stuff... none of that makes any sense to me. I realise that the reason the characters are lacking in depth is that they are really just Church's memories or mental projections of those people, just like in "Inception", but that also begs the question of how he knows so much about all of them...
I guess the reason that he's found Tex but not left yet is twofold: firstly, he doesn't actually know how to get out, secondly he isn't sure if she's the real Tex or his mental projection of Tex.

But yeah, overall I agree with you that this season is severely lacking in substance, I have had a lot of trouble engaging with the story, and I haven't laughed once. Well, except a little at some of Caboose's lines, but I used to laugh a lot more.

Doctor Who:
Yeah, I enjoyed it for the most part, I just felt like it's been a lot more based on "if you believe it you can make it happen" for the second half at least.
Well, we knew the Doctor wasn't going to die. I did think the last episode was a bit over the top though with the whole of time unravelling just because one thing doesn't happen. I also miss the time-eating bats that used to appear when time was changed, they haven't appeared since the Ninth Doctor.

Still, I'm looking forward to the next series, there's still a lot to see.

Speaking of old Doctors, have you seen this? (Wait for it)

Scrapping Red Lion:
I stand by my decision. In my opinion plenty of ideas that actually got made should have been scrapped and then started over, like the script for the third X-Men, Spider-Man and Rush Hour films, Batman The Dark Knight and 2009's Star Trek, or the entire concept for the comicbook Squirrel Girl, and who's that one from DC comics who combines animals into weird mutants? That's more like a villain's power. Some ideas really are bad ideas, and some are badly executed and need to be started over and made into a good idea, but it requires good ideas in the first place to build from.

Just because I've scrapped the character in the form that I had imagined at that time that doesn't mean I won't go back to the character when I have a better idea. My working process is: if the original idea is fundamentally flawed, scrap it, then if you have a better idea later, go back to it and start again from scratch, because sometimes it's easier to start from scratch with a stronger foundation, otherwise you just keep making changes to try to make something work and end up hating it because it's nothing like what you originally envisaged -- which is why I scrapped the idea for that sci-fi comic, I ended up changing all the characters and setting so much by the end that I didn't know them well enough to write a story about them anymore, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I'll never go back to it, it just won't be until I have a better idea that I think can make it work, and I can't force that, I just have to wait for it to happen naturally.

I scrapped Urban Dragons earlier in the year because the storyline I was working with didn't hold much potential for character development, humour or anything interesting happening at all, but then I went back to it later when I had a better idea and re-wrote it from the beginning -- I'm currently working on that revised storyline and when I have fleshed it out a bit more I would appreciate your feedback on it so I can make it better, and that one I won't be scrapping based on one hole because I know that I can make it work in some form, even if I have to make some minor changes.

I also recycle characters from stuff I've scrapped into new stuff all the time -- Nadine and Owen, who appear in Urban Dragons as humans, were originally characters from a book idea I was working on called "Chronicles of the Modern Dragons", so Liam and Andrew may live on in some form in something else, or even as comicbook characters in a comic within another comicbook universe I create, like the Crimson Chin in Fairly Odd Parents.

Point being, I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression and I'm sorry for upsetting you, I know you weren't trying to tear apart the idea, that was all me, I really am my worst critic. don't get so annoyed at me for being me, this is just how I work, and don't get so annoyed at yourself either, because I know you do, some ideas are just bad idea.

I'm going to assume for now that you're not replying because you're been away from your computer or had the browser window closed for the last few hours and you forgot to log out.

Anyway, I'm off to bed, I'll catch up with you tomorrow or at the weekend. G'night. Have a good remainder of the week.

What about Doctor Who? You up to date with Doctor Who? This season's been a bit sentimental, I feel, but it's nice to see the Doctor's going to start laying low instead of doing big flashy stuff now, hopefully that means a return to the old Doctor Who tradition of doing good but staying under the raydar.
