Minor emergency So last night I got home from drill and hugged my wife. Her little chihuahua started going nuts for attention and she picked him up to put him into his bed so he wouldn't bother me. When she went to stand up, she told me that she couldn't move and it was obvious that she was in great pain. I helped her to the bed and started trying to figure out what was wrong with her. Come to find out that earlier in the day she had tried to do one of the p90x workouts, doing things she hasn't tried to do in years. That lead me to believe that she was having a muscle spasm/cramp in her lower back. I treated her with 800mg of IB (army candy), direct heat application, and icy hot.
I had just done my PT test that morning, and it had been a very long and busy drill. In short, I was exhausted and sore. We decided to hold off going to the ER for as long as we could. After a few hours it became apparent that she wasn't going to be able to go to work, and around midnight I realized that I wasn't going to be able to leave her home alone. I managed to get some sleep, with her waking both of us up every few hours from the pain.
This morning I took her to the closest urgent care facility where she got a steroid shot and a muscle relaxer. She also got four prescriptions (including vicoden) and was told to stay home for the next three days.
She's a little out of it, but is able to move a lot better and can even use the bathroom on her own (that's why they make you take vows), and I should be able to be at work tomorrow. My brother is luckily off tomorrow so he can check on her and help her if she needs it, too.
To top the whole thing off, we just signed up for health insurance, but it doesn't go into effect until next month.
The single highlight of drill was that I had to brief and defend my plan for missile life fire to the battalion commander, his staff, and the other battery commanders, first sergeants, and other section leaders (I was the lowest rank in the room). High stress, but it went off pretty well, and my commander didn't take too much credit.
