E3 Okay, I've noticed that I haven't written a new journal for a long long long time, so this is to remedy that, and I need a place to put down these thoughts or I'll overflow with giddyness.
Okay, biggest news for me personally is the announcement of Halo 4. I definitely wasn't expecting it, even though it was leaked a little bit before Microsoft's conference (I assumed it was baseless rumor). The trailer looked awesome, and even though it obviously isn't in-game footage, it was awesome. The only thing that I'm timid about is that Bungie isn't going to make it, but I'm willing to give 343 a chance before judging them (and I'll have the Halo 1 remake to judge them by by then anyway). The fact that it'll be a new trilogy excites me immensely. I was always expecting Halo 4, but I thought it wouldn't happen so soon (even though it'll come out five years after Halo 3).
Something I can look forward to this year is the Halo 1 remake, Anniversary. I'm kind of surprised that they're keeping the Combat Evolved subtitle in the game, but oh well. I was also hoping for the game to have its own engine, but I guess "glossing over" Bungie's original work is the best way to keep Halo 1 Halo 1. One of the things that has me most excited is that it won't be a full price game (it'll help make up for ODST being full price). I'm also glad that the mulitplayer for it is in the Reach engine. I didn't want Reach to feel outdated since it's Bungie's last Halo game, and this way 343 and Bungie don't have to compete (at least until Halo 4 comes out).
I loved the Gears of War 3 live demo that Cliff Bleszinski showed off. I honestly thought it was better than the Gears of War 2 demo that they showed off at E3 a few years ago even. It was cool to see the four player co-op in action, and the new Silverback mechs. It was also cool to see what i assume was a Lambent Leviathan, since I just read about them in the Anvil Gate book. Favorite part was Cole dumping the container full of Tickers onto the Lambent.
The Mass Effect 3 demo was pretty cool, but i felt it was a little too short. It was cool to see Mordin and Legion in the new game (I'd say the same about Liara and Garrus, too, but they didn't talk at all). It was also cool to see the female krogan. It was really cool to see the new melee system (something Mass Effect has always needed improvement in) and the stealth kills. Also cool was the new walking Reaper variation that they showed off. It was also cool to hear Joker and EDI, too.
I'm also looking forward to Skyrim, but the demo they showed (which wasn't bad) didn't have anything that stuck out to me. I also liked what I saw of Prototype 2. The graphics look a lot better than the first game, and the new tendril attacks look awesome. I saw a little of Bioshock Infinite. Looks cool, but I can't get myself too excited about it yet.
Maybe something at Nintendo's conference tomorrow will stick out to me and will warrant a second journal. Going into it, though, the only things I can think of that I'm interested in are Skyward Sword, whatever new 3DS games come out, and Project Cafe.
