L4D2 DLC (With a twist)
Valve Software announced today that the first Left 4 Dead 2 DLC is currently under development - scheduled for release in early 2010. As an interesting twist, the original characters from the first Left 4 Dead: Francis, Bill, Zoey, and Louis, will meet up with the characters from Left 4 Dead 2: Ellis, Coach, Rochelle, and Nick. According to Valve's press release, the new DLC The Passing "will include new arenas for survival, Versus, and Scavenge mode and introduce a new cooperative challenge mode of play." The new arenas for Survival and Scavenge will likely be based on the new campaign, while details on the new co-op challenge mode have yet to be released. The DLC will also include a new uncommon infected, a new melee weapon, and a new firearm. The L4D2 DLC price will be revealed closer to the launch date. The first and only piece of paid DLC for the original Left 4 Dead, the Crash Course DLC, received mixed reviews. Some felt the 'half campaign' did not add enough new content to justify the odd 560 Microsoft Point price ($7). Also, some Xbox 360 gamers felt ripped off, since PC players received the new content free of charge. Despite criticisms, the Crash Course DLC offered a well-designed, mini-expansion, serving mostly to whet the appetites for fans frothing at the mouth for Left 4 Dead 2. With a whole new campaign adding new content to single-player, co-op, Versus, Survivor, and Scavenge modes of play, along with adding new weapons and a new uncommon infected, Valve Software is clearly aiming for a more complete DLC expansion to Left 4 Dead 2, instead of just a couple of new levels like Crash Course. Hopefully, Valve will avoid another pointless controversy by finding a fair price point for both Xbox 360 and PC gamers. |
