Snowmageddon Seattle 2012

So hey, I survived. It really wasn't that bad, and aside from being snowed in and losing power for the majority of the time, it was pretty fun. A pain in the ass, but fun.

LOL. So are we, but we did end up talking to our then-newish neighbors a little bit to compare notes about rumors re power, cable, etc repairs. We lived in my old house for 4 years and barely knew one set of neighbors enough to say hello to them if we happened to see them ... and that was in little dead-end street neighborhood. We are such recluses, it's not funny. We did like to go to this little art house cinema nearby and a little family-owned homemade ice cream place. We still go to the first one, but it's a bit of a drive now.

At least you'll be better prepared next time. Well, live and learn. Shit. I didn't realize how late it was here. Have a good night!

We also went to bed super early, we were just so bored and cold, there was nothing else to do.

Exactly. We would charge the phones and mp3 players in the car. We each have a backup battery that had some juice in it. We had turned them off right away when the power went off, but booted them up a couple times to charge things. We were so bored, it was ridiculous. We had a good supply of AA batteries here, so I used them in an old portable CD player/radio some of the time. I can't imagine how we would have gone nuts if we had been snowed in like you guys. Oh, and FEMA was good enough to show up with food (those army meal things?) for people ..... yeah, after an entire WEEK of being without power. Heckuva job there, FEMA!

PS: FedEx offered Jim a generator multiple times, but we're in a rented apt. now so we couldn't accept. Glad you're getting one, though.

Oh, that's good that you have a gas stove. Ours is electric. They did get power on to businesses on our Main St. so we ate out a few times and one of the places was nice enough to let us plug our phones in to charge while we ate.

Another thing we did was buy one of those solar lanterns that you put out on the deck that glows at night and we would put that out all day and then use it in the house at night to provide a little bit of light besides candles. We eventually bought a couple of hurricane lamps, too (good for warming your hands!!). We lucked out that it got warm outside quickly, but still took a few days for all that snow to melt, but our apt. was much colder than outdoors. We ended up going to bed ridiculously early and staying in bed a lot during the day with every sweater on and every blanket over us just to keep warm.

Can definitely sympathize with what you guys went through. I never want to do that for that long again!
