Punchline
I'm currently reading Around the World in 80 Days, I've just finished the last episode (season2) of Sherlock, and at uni I read Robinson Crusoe. All these men I've admired, as characters I love them. They are men of measured intelligence, and well travelled. As such, they are knowledgeable of the world and their limits within it. They can be cautious, and men of action when they reasonably believe they will win. Something that in many respects I've aspired to be like. However, they are also dicks to the people they are around, emotion is downplayed, and relationships get started and dropped for convenience. Something I definitely don't want to be, although sometimes I fear I get close to it. It feels weird to have such a juxtaposition about these characters that I used to love the cynicism and clinical approach they had, where now I despise it. tl;dr - I love dicks. |
