10 year retrospective and visions of the future.Where was I 10 years ago?
I was in grade 3 of the Australian Primary School system. Aged 8. I was yet to meet the people that I currently call my circle of friends by 6 years. I was yet to travel to 10 international destinations. I had no idea that my spine was starting to not like the normal direction of development, and the furthest thing from my mind was the several surgeries that would be needed to fix that. I hadn't discovered some important personal details about who I am as a person and still held idealistic views as to my future without knowing (or seeing the signs of) the minefield rapidly approaching.

I find it really strange to think back and work out at what stage I was in my life when Rooster Teeth began.
Despite discovering Rooster Teeth in 2006 through The Strangerhood, I still feel like a newer fan (at least until last year when the AH boom occurred). Especially because of the fact I only started watching Red vs Blue when Reconstruction was being released. The Blood Gulch Chronicles were wrapped by that stage.
I would probably put myself as one of the first people in the second generation of Rooster Teeth fans.
BGC = 1st Gen, Recollection = 2nd Gen, Freelancer = 3rd Gen, AH = 4th Gen
Though most of the people I know, and those who have shaped my view of Rooster Teeth are from the first generation.
Where will RT be in 10 years?
Most of these people in 1st and 2nd Gen (including myself) are what I call Rooster Teeth conservatives. Who know RT through and through and can easily identify decisions made to cater to each of these generations. These "conservatives" could pretty much handle most change RT does well (with minor complaints), until the 4th Generation. The recent influx of a huge amount of people to AH has shaped RT to cater for a different audience, Gamers, not Rooster Teeth fans. I in no way blame Rooster Teeth for this, any company likes to tailor their users experience to what their "core" audience want. I applaud them for their efforts. But unfortunately people like me, all 1st Gen's and many 2nd and 3rd Gen's are no longer the "core" audience, and we have no hope of ever re-establishing our position as "core" because the Gamer audience is way bigger than the Rooster Teeth audience.
In 10 years I see Rooster Teeth maintaining the current audience they have, this audience will continue to grow, just not expand into any other demographics. I doubt we will see such a major shift, as the one we have seen over the past year.
I see a movie, this probably would be released in the same way as FreddieW's VGHS... Day 5 maybe already that.
Perhaps even a videogame (they almost definitely will at least have some heavy hand in someone else's videogame if they don't do one themselves), they have talked in the past about 3d animation studios only needing a few additional people with specific games design skill sets to create games, RT is now in the same position.
RTX? At this stage it is, despite being in it's third year, something that is still optional for RT to do. It still exists as this odd real-world element of an Internet based company. I don't have the sufficient knowledge of events to evaluate what will happen in the future.
The Rooster Teeth site is something that is amazingly sustainable compared to many other social networking sites. It has had it's touch and go moments, eg. mod system change, visual overhauls, but these have been minor short term annoyances that were quickly forgotten about. I think it would have to take a major change either to it's look and navigation, or user base to force it's current users away. It has to be remembered that the RT site is a social networking site, and despite being around for all this time there is still a chance that something takes off and Rooster Teeth becomes Facebook or Twitter... quite scary to think about.
The staff. I will not be surprised if one of the founding fathers of Rooster Teeth no longer works for the company in 10 years. As sad as the thought is of any of them leaving you have to consider the only person who has had a consistent job for a longer period of time than RT has been running is Burnie. 10 years, and then 20 years is a long time for anything.
Red vs Blue. This one is very hard to predict because it is so hard to imagine RT without it. Despite the fact that we have the 3d work now, I feel rvb will always have to stick to its machinema roots for consistencies sake. This though, is restricted by the future Halo games, if there are any, and if they have the right feel and features for it to be appropriate for RT to work with it. The fact that 343 has signed to do a trilogy is almost like confirming rvb has a future. But I imagine at some stage rvb will have to wind down, at least taking as long of a break as they did between Season 5 and Reconstruction
, otherwise it will get drowned out by the content around it (made worse by the fact it is most likely going to be other RT content). Things like Rock Band, Guitar Hero and COD have fallen into the trap of making content without down time, not allowing the creator or the audience to have a break, thus it falls into the background and at worst is an annoyance.
Rooster Teeth (especially AH) as a whole also is getting to the stage where it needs a break. Unfortunately because that is a much larger entity it is unlikely to ever have the chance to. It will be a rocky ride through the next year if they do not do anything to keep stuff fresh. Luckily it seems they have already prepared for that with new content such as Shorts, Day 5 and RWBY.
Well I have been typing for way too long and this is really only for my benefit as I want to come back here after seeing how RT has fared and see how unbelievably accurate my predictions are... or how off they were.
If you got through this entire thing; Thank you.
