Ground BreakingThis morning,
Arryn (from
this week's podcast) and I were talking about being grounded as kids. When I would get grounded, I would wake up extra early (after my parents had left for work) so I could play video games. She told me that whenever she would get grounded, she would simply read the Harry Potter books. She told me that whenever she would get grounded, she would simply read the Harry Potter books. At a young age, she said she was proud to have once read an entire book in three days after being grounded for a week one summer.
I asked her what she did to get grounded.
"Well," she began, "my two little cousins and I were at Schlitterbahn and one of my cousins wanted to go down this ride with some people we'd met, but my other cousin, Skyla, and I wanted to go to the other part of the park."
Go on."So, we told her that we were going to take a tram to the wave pool and that she could meet us over there when she was done."
Go on."But, the thing is...she never showed up. We went looking for her, but she had completely disappeared! Turns out she just got lost after getting off the ride, borrowed someone's phone, and called her mom so she could get picked up."
...Go on."Needless to say I was grounded. It was stupid. I felt so bad afterwards when I realized what I had done and how bad the situation could have turned out. I just wasn't thinking at the time. I really wanted that wave pool."
She laughed.
I laughed.
And then I asked her, "So...what you're saying is, you were at a waterpark, waiting in line for a ride you didn't want to go on, when you decided to abandon part of your group to go hang out in a pool instead?"
