Crysis 2
Got it a couple of weeks ago on the day it came out, and never got around to doing a little review thingy Maybe I'll start now And today we step into prophet's squishy tricked out morphsuit, minus the whole being prophet part, for nothing better than to pretend we're batman with only half of his utility belt I feel I must mention that First time I played through was on Supersoldier difficulty, and 3 days and about 846 deaths later I'd finished the singleplayer campaign. also the controls and suit are now user friendly, as in, you can now powerjump while cloaked or armored, and speed now falls under the power category The first problem I encountered with Crysis 2, was not any sort of Online bullshit that I hear alot of PC users got, because I opted for the PS3 version, but was the total lack of freedom, it was completely linear, Crysis 1 atleast let you bypass certain instances completely, untill you realized you were supposed to go there and do that thing, but there were at least secondary objectives that weren't necessary but made your job easier if you did them. No such luck in Crysis 2, but If you felt like it you could just not kill the enemies, but wheres the fun i that right? I started out thinking that, and 537 deaths later I opted for a bit of stealth, now, one of the things that I quite liked about the stealth, is that now using a silenced weapon doesn't instantly drain all your energy, rather, depending on what you used it drained a bit, maybe 15 for a pistol, 35 for a rifle and 85 for a sniper, yeah, the sniper rifle can get a silencer, what I didn't like about the stealthing, was the fucking AI, I'll admit, it was actually better than the first game, but it was kind of bothersome to be sneaking around, get a slight amount of detection from moving a little too close to a random guy and having him follow the exact same path I take to get away from him, even after completely losing the alert level. The singleplayer campaign was alot more solid than the first, and gave some more backstory to the series, though some of the voice acting was terrible, namely Gould, especially over the radio, also some of the Instances, such as the chopper fight in the lab, a fucking pain in the ass, A gunner should go down from a single shot to the head, not 5, or 6. also the pilots dialogue didn't match up with his actions, like when I shot one of the gunners out he said "we have a gunner down, were pulling out!" I was rather confused when the objective marker sat on top of the building still displaying that I had to destroy the chopper, and was still confused when he said a similar line when he came back and I blew the second gunners neck out and he did it again Multiplayer was, to sum the entire thing up, Call of Duty: Maximum Edition, because It's pretty much CoD4 with Nanosuits. but CoD4's Multiplayer was fun right? well this is too, because they fixed the stealth without making it a gamebreaker. but back to the rip-off, it has essentially got the same perks system, loadout system, and support system, that CoD4 had, albeit with slight variations. The Perks: You can have 3 perks, one Stealth perk, one Armor perk, and one Power perk, and to unlock them, you had to gain experience from using that particular mode, eg. If you spend alot of time cloaked, and snapping peoples necks, you'll get more experience in stealth, and If you stay in armor, you won't get much armor exp unless you're absorbing alot of fire. and fucked if I know how you get unlock points. The Weapons loadout: you get 5 basic classes, and 5 custom classes, difference being you unlock a new custom class every 5 levels and weapons can have an attachment in each slot, and again, Fucked if I know how to get weapon unlock and attachment unlock points. And Lastly, the supports: In CoD4 you got a Radar for a 3 killstreak, an Airstrike for a 5 killstreak, and a Gunship for a 7 killstreak. In Crysis 2, its a little more varied and you cant be a pussyfooting camperfaggot about it because you had to go get their dogtag for it, unless you had the retriever perk, in which case fuck you I will rip off your legs and stick them up both your nose holes. For 3 dogtags you'd get a Radar Uplink, for 5 dogtags you'd get either an Orbital laserbeam thingy, radar jammer or Nanosuit disruptor, and for 7 dogtags you'd get A Ceph gunship or a Nanosuit 2.0 upgrade, because in the multiplayer you only got Nanosuit 1.5's, they do the same stuff as 2.0 but use the energy like you're playing crysis 1 Overall I quite enjoyed it, though fans of the series won't like it as much because in terms of gameplay it was a mix of CoD4 and Crysis 1 and was inferior to both, but it still turned out alright in my book I give it about an 8-8.5 outta 10 but still, play it, I had fun with it, and maybe you will too (shit got real when the aliens showed up, and it's awesome keeping track of how quickly the city decays from the Infestation) |
