Well, finally... Also, Halo Reach Beta
Finally I've got the chance to write a new journal... and it has nothing to do with the Beta Code (ahem). Well, I've been thinking about writing some of the stuff thats been happening this week, but I've been pretty busy. Let me see if I can remember most of it. Well for starters, I've lost about 3 days of sleep in the past two weeks. Two days in a row, I didn't even sleep, not just getting very little sleep, but I was awake for a total of two days! While this may seem like I'm trying to brag, it was completely unintentional and I was miserable throughout the entire endeavor. I began on Sunday night working on some stupid project for english, but didn't start until like midnight and watched T.V while I did it. By the time I finished it was 5:50 and I had to get up in 10 minutes, so I just stayed awake. I wanted to come home and just fall asleep, but my friend persuaded me to hang out at his house and I didn't get home until six. My grandma wouldn't let me do my homework and insisted on eating dinner, so I finally got started at eight. This wouldn't have taken that long if I didn't get distracted by the blu-ray of Inglourious Basterds I had gotten back in December but still not watched. I opened it up and noticed that it came with a digital copy, which I decided to pop into my laptop since my disc-drive had been broken since I got it and I didn't expect it to work. Much to my surprise and joy, the disc worked. While it was in there, I figured, "Why not install the digital copy?" which only took about ten minutes. After doing this, I figured, "Well, I can do math while watching a movie." What I forgot was that almost the entire movie is in subtitles. So I got what I probably could have done in 10 minutes, done in about 3 hours. Again it was almost 6 in the morning when I was 'half way' finished and I had to finish in class. I had to constantly force myself to stay awake throughout the day. Finally, after hours of torment, I fell into a blissful state of sleep with all the REM goodness. You want to know what I dreamt of... Absolutely nothing. If I did have a dream I'm pretty sure the only image that would have been conjured by my brain would be the image of myself lying in bed sleeping... a little like this: 9gag.com/photo/13496_540.jpg. It was about a 5 hour nap, and it made me the happiest I had been in quite a while. It's just so amazing to me how fantastic an effect sleep can have on you. Anyway, other than my little sleep escapades, all that really happened was I had to take the state's standardized tests, which were retarded. Look, I've held this position for quite a while, but testing in schools is not the most effective method of teaching and makes little sense. Now, I know testing is the way that its been done for hundreds of years and the way teachers are taught in teacher school, but there is no logic behind it. The idea is that it is to measure your understanding of the material when you are cutoff from the source, but in most circumstances, this is not necessary. In a real world situation outside of school you will almost always have access to the information you need in any conventional profession such as how mathematicians will have lists of equations with them while they work and historians can refer to their sources while writing an article, they are not limited to what they know by memory. Sure doctors need to know basic medical knowledge at hand and I understand that in trade skill professions like being a mechanic it would be impractical not your skills by heart, but most people aren't going to need to memorize all of the events in history or the complexities of the human body. It would make more sense to not waste our time and only see what the student's ability to comprehend the material is and if they decide to pursue a career in that field, or if they just so choose to as a hobby, they could take classes more tailored for them. I'm pretty sure that this is what the model is supposed to be, High School is to teach you what is generally needed to live in society and prepare you for it while College is where you specialize in a trade. However if High School is a training why force you to learn specific stuff like science when most people won't use it later in life. "But many people don't go to college!" you say. And to that I say, exactly! Just as I was saying, while High School is for checking comprehension, it is also for preparing kids for their futures, so if a student does not end up going to college, why waste their time with a science they will not use when they could be learning stuff that would benefit them in their lives outside of school. Say a student wants to go into film making, they have virtually no need to have any knowledge of biology, chemistry, or physics and would rather focus on English, art, maybe something related to film if the school had it; or if someone planned on working in an office without going to college, they could learn mathematics and the computer programs they would need in such a situation. Similarly, if a student intended to attend college and become a doctor, they could get a head start and take specialized biology classes. Well now I'm starting to ramble. Sorry, but I have to give a debate later this year and I'm going to use this as my topic. Well I guess I should wrap this up. I really didn't want to talk to much about the Halo Reach Beta code because I knew they would probably just get a bunch of please, please, pleaseing. I'll just say this, I doubt anyone will really give a legitimate reason for why they deserve the code for the beta since no one really needs it, but I would really enjoy it and be very appreciative. Well, that's all I have to say. P.S. I can guarantee that if I get the beta code, everyone at Rooster Teeth will grow penis's 3 times larger than their already humongoid dicks. Just sayin. -G Out |
