New Star Trek film Has anyone seen the trailer to the new Star Trek film...I'd like to hear what you think of it.
In my personal opinion it isn't going to be that good.
the reasons why are as follows: 1: The New ENTERPRISE......it is already established in Star Trek that starfleet vessels cannot be constructed on planets because they have to be tested for air leaks and hull breaches, only parts can be built at ground based facillities and then sent to shipyards in orbit. Also the ENTERPRISE has been designed based on designs from ST:IV onwards(which was set in 2296) yet the film is set in 2260.
2: Kirk's history has never been told, that was one of the many mysteries of the show...for example Tex's background is shrouded in mystery, also in the original series Kirk never slept with Uhura......he only kissed while under the influence of powerful telepathic beings.
3: The big excuse for the new changes is that the film is set in an alternate timline, fair enough......but their changing so much about the story and known universe of Star Trek that it's now been dubbed "JJ Trek" or "Abrahm's Trek". To give you an example of the type of changes I mean let's say he did a Halo film....it would be like completly re-inventing Cortana or re-inventing Chief. or even re-writing the known story of Halo to match what he needed or wanted to do.
but this is my opinion......
