PAX was awesome
I only went for Saturday, but that one day was WAY better than last year's. I got to the Center at about 10 AM, which was too late to get to the Bungie panel, so instead two friends and I took a quick tour of the hall, ultimately deciding to wait to play Gears 3 until the Halo: Reach meetup. While we were waiting, another friend met up with us in line. As soon as we sat down, I messed up the console by saying Host Game (when I wasn't supposed to press any buttons. Put up a sign instead of saying it. The hall is loud), and got singled out as the person who messed it up for a minute. But then we started playing. Beast mode is really fun. I tried out the Ticker, the Kantus, the Savage Boomer, the Berserker, and the Armored Kantus. The Ticker is cool, and because Beast (as far as I know) is based off of Tokens rather than lives, the Ticker is pretty powerful as a cheap Locust. The Kantus is as you would expect. I mostly healed my teammates and took long shots with the Gorgon Pistol. The Savage Boomer is pretty cool, but I only tried out the Digger Grenades. The Berserker was actually kind of hard to play as due to its limited vision. They aren't all that accurate, put I like the idea of no safe cover. I have to say that the Armored Kantus is my favorite class. You get dual revolvers, and whenever you roll your armor hurts whoever you touch. After walking around more, it was time for the Reach meet up. The RoosterTeeth guys showed episode 10 to monumental applause, and there was some Q&A. During this, there was a contest for the four people who had the worst phones in the room, and they would get a Windows 7 phone. I was one of the winners because I had an antenna (I was "wiggly antenna" if you were there), so that's great for me. After the meet-up, my friends and I helped the organizer carry the Reach posters down to the 5th floor (which is full of offices), and we got to meet the person inside the armor of Kat-320. She's pretty cool, and the armor is the set used in Deliver Hope. After lunch we waited in line to play some Firefight in Reach. While we were waiting in line, Burnie came up and gave one of my friends a code for a Noble Six helmet because he had a "worst shirt ever" shirt on, with the grenade on the back. It was really cool. I played as Marksman most of the time, because the Shotgun wasn't that useful on the map (it's the one where Bungie unveiled the forklift). I saw the Air Strike designator in action, and that thing is incredibly powerful. After more goofing off, I went to the RoosterTeeth booth, where I bought The Recollection (and I must say that the ending of Revelation is must-see) and the Remastered Boxset (even though I already have the regular box), and got my Recollection cover signed by Burnie, Geoff, and Gus (with Caleb selling merch, and Jack showed up after a few minutes). They were really funny the entire time, with Geoff trying to set up Caleb with every girl who walked by, or Gus brandishing Mega64's DVDs and dancing while the cosplay videos were going. Before we left we all tried out Kinect Boxing. I wasn't really enthused about the game, but the controls were pretty incredible. I hate to draw comparisons, but it's like a better version of Wii Boxing without the controllers. All in all, it was a great PAX, and I'm hoping I can go to all three days next year (and maybe help out the guys). |
